With the Mid-autumn Festival approaching, International Student Club (ISC) decided to organize a DIY Mooncake Party for international students and their roommates so that they could try to make their own mooncakes and better understand the culture of Mid-autumn Festival. As a majority of international students have only stayed in Zhuhai for about two weeks, this occasion has also given them a great opportunity to socialize with each other and with their roommates.

At the beginning of the party, Katharina Yu, Director of International Development Office, extended warm festival greetings to all international students and their roommates and she emphasized that the door of IDO would always be open for them to ensure they wouldn’t be alone whenever they have difficulties during their stay in UIC.

Later on, Samuel (International Student Club President) and Jenny (International Student Club Vice President) shared their understanding of the Mid-autumn Festival and the beautiful legend behind this festival.

With the music on, students started to create their exclusive mooncakes.

Chomluck Banlursakkul from Thailand presented her beautiful mooncakes.

So Jung Bae showed  she made quite a few different mooncakes.

“Well, it was easier than I thought because IDO staff helped us prepare almost every ingredient which was good, we could save our time. The funny thing was that I preferred to make mooncake dough used for wrapping the stuff inside mooncake, which were red bean and lotus. I did not know why but it was fun for me. I thought mooncake here is a little bit different from what I have in Thailand. Of course, they don’t have durian mooncake LOL! I learned something from this that making mooncake is not that hard, but to make it delicious and beautiful is tough! Thanks to IDO staff by the way, this was such a great new experience to learn Chinese culture more” said  Janejira Sakullelarasmi, a Thai international student.
