As the first student from UIC who came to Austria for exchange, I am very glad that I seized this valuable opportunity to have a very different life experience. I applied for MCI exchange in Innsbruck, Austria in the winter of 2023, and started a new life in a city in the foot of snow-covered mountains that have hosted two Winter Games. 

Academically, the school set up a program to visit the European Union, and we traveled to Brussels, the capital of Belgium, to begin a week-long exploration of the EU. The school was so resourceful that they even invited the Austrian representative in the EU gave us a presentation, which was very impressive. Living in Austria, despite not knowing a word of German, the prevalence of English was so good that life was not a bit of a hurdle, which made me realize that all my fears before coming out were unfounded. We've had classes, trips, and conversations with students from different European countries. We've hiked in the fall, skied in the winter, and went to the lake on the weekends to soak up the sun, and thoroughly experienced their sense of relaxation. The semester is now just over half over, and I'm looking forward to the rest of the semester.
