Many members of the faculty and staff gathered to welcome this year’s new and returning foreign interns at a luncheon organised by the International Development Office (IDO) on 4 September.

IDO Director, Dr Katharina Yu, started off the event by welcoming everyone and introducing UIC President, Prof Tang Tao. She then went on to introduce the Vice President (Academic Affairs) Prof Chen Zhi, Vice President Prof Zhang Cong and Associate Vice President Prof George Chuxiong Wei.

Also attending were the deans and directors of different divisions and centres, which included Dean of the Division of Science and Technology (DST) Prof Huang Huaxiong, Acting Dean of the Division of Culture and Creativity (DCC) Dr Jiang Wei, Associate Dean of the Division of Humanitites and Social Services (DHSS) Dr Lowe Charles, Associate Dean of the DHSS Prof Simon Zhao, Director of WPEO Prof Guo Haipeng, Director of the English Language Centre (ELC) and Associate Professor Dr Wong Viola, Progamme Director fo CTV Prof Mai Evelyn, Programme Director of Data Science Dr Xuanyuan Zhe, Programme Director of IJ Dr Rachel Chen in addition to the Director of Media and Public Relations Office (MPRO) Mr Chai Hi-Hing.

President Tang, spoke to the new interns and congratulated them on the exciting year ahead of them before welcoming everyone to start eating.

New Foreign Intern for DST Ms Cora McCain said, “The lunch was a great way to get to know the deans and directors of the different divisions, while enjoying delicious food”, before adding “I felt very welcome and had great conversation.”

The luncheon was organised by IDO to help faculty and staff get to know the foreign interns as well as help the foreign intern’s familiarise themselves with the different departments.
